Who are the project members & what do they do?Simon Tilley Simon Tilley joined the project 1995 after a background in Mechanical Engineering. This included spending two years in Namibia and working for Voluntary Services Overseas (VSO). His engineering skills have been put to good use in the project, in particular the water systems as well as being involved with more general construction work. Simon combines looking after three children (aged 3,5 and 7) with project work and occasional VSO training. More recently he became an 'Open University' tutor for a renewable energy course. His main interests now are the Trading Company, further development of energy systems and setting up of aquaculture system. Simon is also one of the tour guides and speakers for the group. Helena Tilley is a Paediatric doctor working in local hospitals. Helena also worked for VSO in Namibia as a hospital doctor. Helena's main interests in the project are organics and bee keeping. Trudi White joined the project in 1996. Trudi's main interests with the project are organics and helping the Trading Company define a strategic direction. Otherwise Trudi is also training locally to be a psychotherapist. Trudi & Nick have three girls aged 2, 5 and 8. Trudi is also one of the regular tour guides. Nick White has been a member of HHP since the start of the construction of the homes in 1996, and contributed to the self-build. Since 1998, Nick has led the development and marketing of the Project’s on site ‘eco-business’, including guided tours, consultancy and workshops. He coordinates the Media coverage of HHP. In the last few years he has also managed grant funded projects including, ‘The Zero Emission Network’ (BIFFAward), written two guides on sustainable living and written a draft “Sustainable Developer Guide” for Nottinghamshire County Council. Pete Rajan is Director of Clinical Psychology Services, Central Notts Healthcare Trusts. His family was involved with the project at its earliest stages. Pete was very involved in the complex planning agreement for the project with the local authority. His main interests now are organics and supporting the Trading Company. Nick Martin has a unique experience and knowledge of energy efficient housing. He first became interested in the early 1990's after acquiring a 25-acre site just outside the village of Hockerton, in rural Nottinghamshire. Combining his interests in renewable energy and low impact developments he set to work on various concepts leading him to the earth-sheltered option. In the meantime he won the tender in 1993 to build the home of Prof. Brenda and Dr. Robert Vale, the UK's first sustainable town house - an autonomous house with 'net zero CO2' emissions, of low embodied energy, deriving power from photovoltaic arrays and passive solar heating. Nick Martin was so convinced by many of the construction principles that he commissioned Dr. Robert Vale to design Hockerton Housing Project to similar energy and environmental performance standards - autonomous and with 'net zero CO2' emissions. Nick supervised the construction of the houses over a period of two years. Nick's main interests with the project now are the Trading Company and further development of energy systems on site. Nick is one of the main tour guides and most regular speaker for the group. Sandy Martin has a degree in Fine Art & Sculpture being put to practical use as a wood-carver. Sandy was also very involved with the complex planning agreement for the project. Her main interests now are organics and developing land management strategies. She is also very active in the Trading Company, in particular in organising the guided tours. Bill Bolton & Louise Lipman joined the project in Feb 2002 and have settled into life at Hockerton very rapidly. Bill is a book illustrator and Louise an acupuncturist. Bill has already helped HHP to review it's logo and is particularly interested in helping to use his skills to develop further HHP publications. Louise is very interested in developing our educational services. |
