Media Publicity

The Hockerton Housing Project has received significant publicity from many areas of the media. This includes local and national TV & Radio, local and national newspapers and a range of specialist publications. More recently it has featured in a number of lifestyle articles, such as BBC Vegetarian & Good Food, and IKEA lifestyle.

HHP has been successful in identifying PR opportunities and has adopted a proactive role with the media. The members of the project are viewed as authorities and pioneers in the field of sustainable living by extensive contacts across the media. The media publicity provides an opportunity to get across key sustainability messages and promote Project activities.

A national press campaign was launched to herald the official completion of the houses. This was strengthened by the attendance of a Government Minister, Nick Raynsford (Construction) to formally acknowledge the completion of the project. Further opportunities will be found to work with the media as significant progress or events occur at the project.

As the project continues to mature over the years, the media will no doubt return to record the progress of the project. The dawn of the new millennium will bring scores of programmes and articles profiling 'high-hope' stories to inspire. The Hockerton Housing Project will undoubtedly appear in many important and influential features as concern for the environment grows and more and more ordinary people seek alternative ways of living.
