(4) People with learning difficulties visit HHP On 3rd July Southwell Care Project facilitated 12 people with a learning disability to visit HHP thanks to a donation from British Sugar at Newark. HHP runs educational days usually for children from local schools and this is the first time we have worked with a group of people who have learning disabilities. By working in partnership with Southwell Care Project’s Community Services Co-ordinator, Mrs Gail Bulman, a day of education and understanding was run. The day involved mapping the area on the site, building shelters, looking at waste recycling and encouraging wildlife in our environments and will involve practical and theoretical learning. Mrs Bulman said, “The work of Southwell Care Project involves helping people to make links with and to understand more about the area in which they live. This day fits the bill entirely and creates an understanding of why there has been so much talk about this local development. We also hope that we can teach people at Hockerton Housing more about the abilities of People who have a learning disability. We are delighted that we have been able to take advantage of this opportunity thanks to the support of British Sugar’s Newark Factory.” The
Southwell Care Project aims to improve the quality of life for people
with learning disabilities and their families, through creating a
community services programme, and organising accommodation with caring
support. If you would like
