(1) New Resource for Schools

HHP now has available a resource pack 'Sustainability in Practice—an educational experience for young people' linked to its recently developed programme of activities for school visits to HHP. Covering six topics it includes activity sheets for both the HHP visit and actions for after. It includes a detailed planning sheet, health & safety information and details of how the activities link to National Curriculum (Key Stage 2).

‘Sustainability in Practice’ is a comprehensive educational experience for young people to learn about the problems of sustainability and discover some of the solutions. In small groups they explore the topics; Water, Shelter, Energy, Waste, Food, Bio-diversity and do a mapping exercise of the site. All activities take place at the HHP site with all necessary resources provided. We aim to make a visit to the Hockerton Housing project, using the Resource Pack, an educational experience which is unique, fun, exciting, developmental and even life changing!

For further details please contact Nick White or Louise Lipman. Copies of the pack can be ordered from HHP at £15 per copy (Free for visiting schools or those planning to come)

(3) Sustainable Travel to HHP

Since the inception of HHP the occupants have worked to reduce the use of fossil fuelled vehicles by its members by restricting families use of fossil fuelled vehicles, purchasing an electric car for community use, encouraging car sharing and promoting use of alternative forms of transport. As part of the development towards becoming more of a sustainable resource centre we are expecting more people to  visit HHP to participate in tours, educational and social events.  We would like to encourage more visitors to reduce their fossil fuel consumption travelling to and from HHP by considering more sustainable options. You can find details on how to travel to HHP more sustainably by clicking here.

More recently we have completed a new bike shelter near the entrance of the site with financial support from Nottinhamshire County Council. Made principally from green oak and with seating outside, it provides a pleasant resting point for cyclists and others before starting a tour. HHP will be hosting two rural ride events on 18th July for local cyclists—Please contact HHP for further information.
