Background
Document
(£15) - This ‘visionary’
document enshrines the foundation of the project, laying out its aims
and objectives at the earliest stage. Much of the subsequent development
of the project stems from the core principles set out here.
Land Management Plan (£25.00) - This is very much an operational document. After initially describing current usage and status (including records of biodiversity) of the land, it defines both in general and highly specific terms how the land must be developed in a sustainable way. |

|
Based on the experience of the Hockerton Housing Project (HHP), this 52-page guide aims to help others plan and set up their own sustainable projects. The guide identifies 28 key issues that are likely to need consideration, including community, legal, financial, planning, and design subjects. For each issue an explanation is provided of the main considerations, tips provided and details of how HHP managed the issue. It should help decide which issues are important to a particular project and whether to investigate them further. Details of organisations and other useful sources of information are provided for each issue. Further sections cover general information about sustainable communities, details on what attracts people to community living, and what are the key blockages to developing a sustainable community. The Sustainable Community: A Practical Guide Members of the Hockerton Housing Project In a densely packed, magazine format guide, the Hockerton Housing Project have distilled their experiences of putting into practice the principles of ecological living. From questions of "What is a sustainable community?" through to "Are you ready to live in a small community?" to "Selecting green furnishing and household goods", the guide takes you step-by-step from the depths of your armchair to the door of your own eco-community. A veritable eco-friendly mine of useful information.(Edge of Time) 48 pp paperback, b&w illus and photos |

A
gateway to a fascinating range of sustainable development projects from
all over the UK In this guide over 30 schemes are profiled as key case
studies with details of access arrangements and further information.
The aim was to include a wide variety of projects to enable people to
access many aspects of sustainable lifestyles and design: from single
eco-homes to large
sustainable developments; from low impact
settlements to green construction sites; from single-family homes to
large community projects. We have also included a number of demonstration
projects/ eco-centres, since they provide particularly good access to
environmental technologies and different environmental building designs. A
secondary section covers over 50 other projects, but in far less detail.
Also included are directories of sources of further useful information. For further information click here. To view an independent review click here |
